Every time we are at an event or just having fun with friends or family, we tend to take our smartphones out and take a few photographs. Well, this is normal. Photos are the best way of capturing memorable events. And, with the introduction of smartphone technology, photography has never been easier and convenient. But, do you always feel like your photos don’t come out as great as you want them to be. Here is how you can take amazing photos with your smartphone.
1. Use Gridlines
Are you familiar with the rule of thirds? This is a composition principle that is taught in a photography class. It entails dividing your photo into thirds both vertically and horizontally. Using gridlines will taking photos will assist you in taking a balanced and level shot.
Making it appear better. Most standard smartphone cameras have to be set so that the grids appear. Navigate to your settings section in your camera and turn the grid on.
2. Adjust The Cameras Focus
Modern-day smartphone cameras come with an in-built auto-focus. This can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. Remember, there are some photographs which do not have a distinct subject.
In such an instance, you will have to adjust the focus so that it sharpens in on the subject. You can manually adjust the focus on your phone’s camera. You will know that it is working when you see a circular or square icon on the screen.
3. Learn How to Focus on the Subject
If you are taking a photograph of your baby swimming on a pool, don’t focus on the lifeguard. Always focus on the subject and make sure they take up at least two thirds of the frame. You will be amazed at how you can take fantastic photos with your smartphone, as long as you focus on the subject.
4. Clean The Smartphone’s Camera Lens
Perhaps the reason why you haven’t been able to take great shots is because your camera lens is dirty. We tend to have a habit of going everywhere with our smartphones. This in turn exposes the camera lens to dirt, oil and even fingerprints. Therefore, before taking a shot, use a soft cloth to clean the lens. Note that rough fibres could scratch the lens and this could in turn worsen the quality of pictures.
5. Lighting is Very Essential
Another reason why smartphone photos don’t turn out to be so good is that most of us don’t pay attention to lighting. You don’t need to go to a photography class for you to know that light can blur an image. Always consider the direction, color and intensity of light before taking a shot.
Always ensure that the subject is directly opposite the light. If it’s too dark, you can use the smartphone flash to enhance lighting. But, be careful when using flash. This is because, in most cases, the smartphone flash can produce unwanted effects such as glowing eyes. The camera flash should be the last alternative if you aren’t near natural lighting or a bulb.
With these pro tips, you can be assured of taking excellent photos with your smartphone. You don’t need to attend a photography class for you to know how to take great photos with your phone. Also, feel free to play around with different camera apps till you find one that works best for you.
